Product Details
Sodium Feredetate is not an iron salt as it contains iron in an un-ionised form. In this compound the iron is “insulated” or “sequestered” with the sodium salt of ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) to form a chelate.
Identification
The infrared absorption spectrum of the sample is concordant with the reference spectrum of Sodium Feredetate
Blue precipitate is formed that does not dissolve on addition of 5 mL of dilute hydrochloric acid.
The solution is coloured red. The organic layer is coloured pink on shaking with isoamyl alcohol or ether. The red colour disappears on addition of mercuric chloride solution
A voluminous, white, crystalline precipitate is formed, which dissolves completely in 1 mL of dilute ammonia. On addition of 1 mL of ammonium carbonate solution, no precipitate is formed
Assay
Not less than 98.0% and not more than 102.0% of C10H12O8N2FeNa, calculated with reference to the anhydrous substance.
Synonms -EDTA Ferric Sodium Salt, Ferric Sodium EDTA, Sodium Iron EDTA
